Happy All Saints Day!

Edition 10 of the First Principles

Romans 10:9-14
9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?

Note: To be saved, there has to be a confession. Babies being baptized, there is no way they can confess. Much less, what sin do they have to confess of? Outside of believing they will be fed again when they are hungry, I am not even sure of what else they can believe in their heart. So the first part of baptism is confession. You have to believe that Jesus is Lord. So, do I confess? Do I admit to my wrongs? Do I hear of others confessing? It’s all apart of Gods plan. If I am not doing these things, if these things aren’t happening, how close and how much am I apart of my God?

Confess (verb):

  1. To disclose (something damaging or inconvenient to oneself); admit.

  2. To acknowledge belief or faith in; profess.

  3. To make known (one's sins) to God.

  4. To hear the confession of (a penitent).

  5. To admit or acknowledge something damaging or inconvenient to oneself.

  6. To disclose one's sins.

Colossians 2:12
12 having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead.

Note: Baptism is by submersion. Sprinkled is not being buried. If it was, it would say “having been sprayed with him in baptism.” Again, who is going to dunk a baby?

Ezekiel 18:20
20 The soul who sins is the one who will die. The son will not share the guilt of the father, nor will the father share the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous man will be credited to him, and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against him.

Note: This is old testament. Some believe that the children are accountable for the sins of their ancestors. We are responsible for our own sins and nothing more.

1 Peter 3:21
21 and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a good conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Note: Water symbolizes baptism which is the thing that saves. It is a participation in the resurrection of Christ. So, by praying Jesus into your heart does not save you. You have to believe AND be baptized to be saved.

Acts 2:38
38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Note: Repent then baptism = forgiveness of sins then Holy Spirit. That’s how it works.

Romans 6:1-4
1 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? 3 Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

Note: As a disciple, we need to die to sin. Temptation is at every turn. We participate in the baptism by being buried with him. Once raised, we live a new life. How committed to my new life am I? Do I walk the walk with my talk? As a disciple, these questions I need to continually ask myself. I need to be dead to my sin.

Saint (noun):
  1. Person of exceptional holiness.

  2. A person who has died and has been declared a saint by canonization.

  3. Model of excellence or perfection of a kind; one having no equal.

  4. A believer in Christ.

When I found that a believer in Christ is a saint, I was like “Wow!” I don’t see myself as a saint, being a model of excellence and having no equal, but I fit the last bill. All the same, HAPPY ALL SAINTS DAY!
