Back on Track - Day #3

1 Kings 8:27
"But will God really dwell on earth? The heavens, even the highest heaven, cannot contain you. How much less this temple I have built!"

Have you ever typed "the universe" into Google? How about "Hubble Telescope", "galaxies" or "NASA"?

Psalm 147:4 Does God know my name? Psalm 108:4 Does God love me? Isaiah 48:13 God put the stars in the palm of his hand and then spread them out in the universe... just how big is this guy?

Jeremiah 32:17, Job 25

Is it too difficult for Christ to restore me? Christ, by the way, is a co-creator (Colossians 1:15-17)

Psalm 8:3-4 - God is HUGE and we are tiny. Romans 12:1-2 says God can take us from the ooze of the mud to the ozone of the universe. Philippians 2:13, the Bible says that God works in me for his purpose. He can. He will. He does. The question is then, do I allow myself to believe that?

Google God. Then Choose God. Again. He is astronomical.

1. From what you know about the solar systems and space, take a few moments to contemplate how big God is. Now try to describe that immensity.
I have studied astronomy in high school and college. I know, or at least have an idea, how big the universe is... which is why I feel so tiny sometimes when I pray. I wonder if God is as big as I think he is, then why would he give my thoughts ANY KIND of consideration. God is bigger than the universe, he could probably wrap his arms around the universe, which makes me the tiniest cell within a cell to a mammoth of a giant.

2. If you could keep a clear view of an astronomical God in the forefront of your mind, how would that affect your faith?
It would make me much more humble. I would even think that it would squish whatever faith I had... why would a God that massive give so much a consideration to me?

3. If you viewed your life from God's perspective, what might you see that you don't now see?
I might have a better understanding of why God loves me.

Humility Study: Part VIII - The Humble Cross

Philippians 2:1-11

If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.

Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death— even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

I would have to say that when someone thinks about humility and a needs to see a scripture in regards to humility, this is the scripture to go to. "In humility, consider others better than yourself." Christ himself humbled himself to become obedient to a death on the cross. He became obedient to the flogging. And he did it to not glorify himself, but to glorify God. And by doing so, he showed that he wasn't thinking of himself at all, but of you and me. He went to that cross to take away my sins. And yours. And it is written that I should live a life like Christ. Does that mean I should go to the cross? Yes. Or at least have a life that shows that I would do such a thing. I can't take your sins away. That action has, in a sense, been done by Christ. The only way to attain such forgiveness is to repent and be baptized, if you haven't already done so...
