Isaiah 23:6-9
6 Cross over to Tarshish; wail, you people of the island. 7 Is this your city of revelry, the old, old city, whose feet have taken her to settle in far-off lands? 8 Who planned this against Tyre, the bestower of crowns, whose merchants are princes, whose traders are renowned in the earth? 9 The LORD Almighty planned it, to bring low the pride of all glory and to humble all who are renowned on the earth.

Renowned (noun):

  1. The quality of being widely honored and acclaimed; fame.

Do blessings come at a price? If I am blessed to the point of being known as a well to do in the United States, much less the world, will the fame God has given me be my demise? I only think it would come if I boasted about it being me that did the great things, instead of God. I look at several things in the bible. First, I look at Job who was a shining example to God, but Job had more faith in his faith than in God. He repented and moved on. Second, Saul was God’s anointed one. He was blessed abundantly, but failed to do what God had commanded. He didn’t repent because he was too worried about what others thought of him. Both were renowned and both had many blessings that brought them to being known throughout. The difference is when the trials came; one saw their sin and reacted humbly. The other one’s pride blew up and reacted with worldly sorrow. With possession comes responsibility. Maybe it is a true blessing to have little. Just a thought. Johnny Out.
