Today, the season for the Rangers begins. The game is currently in progress as I start this, Rangers trail 5-2. I’ve already been to the doctor and had a MRI, which I almost fell asleep in through the beeps and weird sounds. I don’t know what the results are… I just hope that something is found and the healing or reduction of pain can begin. My leg pain is getting worse to the point to where it is really hard to fake it and walk without a limp. I did well through the first quarter, going 90 in 90… the second quarter has been a struggle in the past, being my weakest quarter over the previous three years. Also, there is a new scam out there that I want everyone to be aware of… it’s a Jury Duty Scam. A simple avoidance of the scam is to go, but things happen. Most of us take the summons for jury duty seriously, but enough people skip out on their civic duty, that a new and ominous kind of scam has surfaced. Fall for it and your identity could be stolen, reports CBS. In this con, someone calls pretending to be a court official who threateningly says a warrant has been issued for your arrest because you didn't show up for jury duty. The caller claims to be a jury coordinator. If you protest that you never received a summons for jury duty, the scammer asks you for your Social Security number and date of birth so he or she can verify the information and cancel the arrest warrant. Sometimes they even ask for credit card numbers. Give out any of this information and your identity just got stolen. This is particularly insidious because they use intimidation over the phone to try to bully people into giving information by pretending they're with the court system. The FBI and the federal court system have issued nationwide alerts on their web sites, warning consumers about the fraud. You can verify this information at Snopes.com (http://www.snopes.com/crime/fraud/juryduty.asp). Rangers are now down 6-2 (in the seventh)

Proverbs 12:1-6
Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid. A good man obtains favor from the LORD, but the LORD condemns a crafty man. A man cannot be established through wickedness, but the righteous cannot be uprooted. A wife of noble character is her husband's crown, but a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones. The plans of the righteous are just, but the advice of the wicked is deceitful. The words of the wicked lie in wait for blood, but the speech of the upright rescues them.
I find this scripture to be somewhat comical. He who hates correction is stupid. He’s STUPID! It can’t be any clearer. And I am not a big fan of discipline, to be honest with you. But it is good to see this scripture on occasion because it puts me in my place. In a good way mind you, it puts me there. (It’s now 7 to 2) I hope to be a man who is positive and desirable in nature. I want to have a character that is obedient to God. And I want it to be my nature to do so. The thing that happened more than a week ago shows me that I am not there. My sinful nature is pouncing on me and I need Gods help to master it. I think on the grand scale, it was a good thing to happen because I learned something of my character that I didn’t realize that I had.
Matthew 12:33-37
“Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit. You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. But I tell you that men will have to give account on the Day of Judgment for every careless word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”
I’m not saying that I am evil or good… it’s just my mouth spoke of unloving things. God doesn’t have anything to do with such things. The overflow of my heart was bitterness and evil. Verse 6 says that “speech of the upright rescues them.” I read that the word “them” is in reference to those who are evil… the upright rescues the evil. I find that interesting because the “upright” that I make out here is Christ. And even though I can fall into my sinful nature and blast someone out of the water with the bitterness in my heart, Christ sees me and helps me get repentance and rescues me through the good things stored up in him. And if that doesn’t bring me a little encouragement in a game where the Rangers are down 7-2 going into the ninth inning, I don’t what will. Sure, the Rangers will most likely loose this game, but with the help of my God, I will walk away from this game a winner. Johnny Out.
