Discussing Discord

Hello. Today marks another QT. I have everything somewhat planned out for the next week, so I am feeling pretty good about things. I still haven't corrected the e-Sword problem just yet. I did some things yesterday with trying to get it to work, but alas, I am fruitless thus far.
Today's topic is "discord", and without e-Sword, I am not sure how deep I can get into it, but I will try my best.
First off, a dictionary definition.

Discord (noun):
  • Lack of concord or harmony between persons or things: marital discord.
  • Disagreement; difference of opinion.
  • Strife; dispute; war.
  • Lack of agreement or harmony.
  • Disagreement among those expected to cooperate.
  • Strife resulting from a lack of agreement.
Strife (noun):
  • Vigorous or bitter conflict, discord, or antagonism.
  • A quarrel, struggle, or clash.
  • Competition or rivalry.
  • Heated, often violent dissension; bitter conflict.
  • A struggle, fight, or quarrel.
  • Contention or competition between rivals.
I felt the need to define strife, since it was part of the definition of discord, and I really didn't know the definition of strife, or for that matter, what it really meant.

Proverbs 6:12-15
A scoundrel and villain, who goes about with a corrupt mouth, who winks with his eye, signals with his feet and motions with his fingers, who plots evil with deceit in his heart— he always stirs up [discord]. Therefore disaster will overtake him in an instant; he will suddenly be destroyed—without remedy.

Proverbs 6:16-19
There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up [discord] among brothers.

Esther 1:16-18
Then Memucan replied in the presence of the king and the nobles, "Queen Vashti has done wrong, not only against the king but also against all the nobles and the peoples of all the provinces of King Xerxes. For the queen's conduct will become known to all the women, and so they will despise their husbands and say, 'King Xerxes commanded Queen Vashti to be brought before him, but she would not come.' This very day the Persian and Median women of the nobility who have heard about the queen's conduct will respond to all the king's nobles in the same way. There will be no end of disrespect and discord.

Discord: Madown (pronounced: maw-dohn'):
  • strife, contention
  • object of contention
Now, if you want to find more scriptures, you can search out the word "strife".

1st Timothy 6:3-10
If anyone teaches false doctrines and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, he is conceited and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions and constant friction between men of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.

But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

This is a lot of food for thought. I didn't know that discord was all this stuff. I simply thought that discord was like dissension, in that it was seperating people from doing what they should be doing... like causing doubt. It is that but in a more violent manner, a bitter conflict. Johnny Out.
