Deciding on Dissension

I missed Sunday. I thought of a number of excuses as to what "classified" as a quiet time, but when it all boils down to it... I didn't have one. I went to Church, focused on God some, but I just didn't get in the word and let it be me and God. So I decided the best thing to do is fess up and repent. I will be honest, I find it easy to make those "good excuses" and find something that can count as a Quiet Time when it really isn't a QT.
I think I will go back soon and look at Saturday's QT and dig more into "fits of rage", but today, I am looking at dissensions. I believe I know what dissensions are, but I also have to be honest with myself and admit, I am not really knowledgable on the subject. Hopefully today I can get a deeper understanding and know in detail what dissensions are what they do... I guess, just how sinful dissensions are.

Proverbs 6:14-15
Who plots evil with deceit in his heart— he always stirs up dissension. Therefore disaster will overtake him in an instant; he will suddenly be destroyed—without remedy.

Proverbs 6:16-19
There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.

Proverbs 10:12
Hatred stirs up dissension, but love covers over all wrongs.

Proverbs 15:18
A hot-tempered man stirs up dissension, but a patient man calms a quarrel.

Proverbs 16:28
A perverse man stirs up dissension, and a gossip separates close friends.

Proverbs 28:25
A greedy man stirs up dissension, but he who trusts in the LORD will prosper.

Proverbs 29:22
An angry man stirs up dissension, and a hot-tempered one commits many sins.

Wow, convicting stuff. So, what is dissension? I know it isn't a good thing, and it leads to many sins... in fact, it is a characteristic for a lot of things, such as anger, greed, perversity, and flat out evilness.

Dissension (noun):
  • Strong disagreement; a contention or quarrel; discord.
  • Difference in sentiment or opinion; disagreement.
  • Difference of opinion; disagreement.
  • Disagreement among those expected to cooperate.
  • A conflict of people's opinions or actions or characters.

So, the sin is where someone creates disagreements amongst the people. I guess you could say that they play "the devil's advocate" a lot and tend to argue over the little things... that's the way I see it. I have to get going right now. Hopefully I will have time to expand on this a bit later on today. Johnny Out.
