Edition 42 of my Pride study
Zephaniah 3:9-12
9 "Then will I purify the lips of the peoples, that all of them may call on the name of the LORD and serve him shoulder to shoulder. 10 From beyond the rivers of Cush my worshipers, my scattered people, will bring me offerings. 11 On that day you will not be put to shame for all the wrongs you have done to me, because I will remove from this city those who rejoice in their pride. Never again will you be haughty on my holy hill. 12 But I will leave within you the meek and humble, who trust in the name of the LORD.
Rejoice (verb):
- To feel joyful; be delighted.
- To fill with joy; gladden.
- To be ecstatic with joy.
Ecstatic (adj.):
- Marked by or expressing ecstasy.
- Being in a state of ecstasy; joyful or enraptured.
John 16:19-24
19 Jesus saw that they wanted to ask him about this, so he said to them, "Are you asking one another what I meant when I said, 'In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me'? 20 I tell you the truth, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy. 21 A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world. 22 So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy. 23 In that day you will no longer ask me anything. I tell you the truth, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. 24 Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.
Philippians 4:4-9
4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
I find it interesting that they would rejoice in their pride. The word rejoice is in over 150 scriptures in the bible and tells us what to rejoice in. What do I rejoice in? Do I get happy when I pass a cop when I am speeding, avoiding a ticket? Do I get excited when I “get away” with something I know is wrong? At first, when I read the scripture I thought I was above it, that “I don’t rejoice in my pride.” But when I feel glad that I “got away” with something, not only am I guilty of the sin but I am also guilty of the joy from getting away with it. And, to be honest, I don’t get away with it. It will come back and bite sooner or later if I don’t repent and confess.
Law (noun):
- A code of principles based on morality, conscience, or nature.
- A way of life.
- The body of principles or precepts held to express the divine will, especially as revealed in the Bible.
- A rule of conduct or procedure established by custom, agreement, or authority.
- Legal document setting forth rules governing a particular kind of activity.
Romans 7:21
21 So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me.
God’s law needs to be a way of life for me. The law of the United States is put down as a guideline for my well being. If I speed, I am breaking the law and not only putting myself in danger, but others as well. It violates my conscience when I speed, because I know I am not doing right and being an example for others. Philippians 4 verse 8 says “whatever is right” and “whatever is admirable.” If by speeding, I am not doing right and it is not admirable and yet when I do it, I rejoice in my heart for getting away with it. I want to let you know that I will stop the 5 mile over rule. I repent. Enjoy the importance of a date which is below. Johnny Out.
The importance of a date:
A tornado hit a farmhouse just before dawn. It lifted the roof off, picked up the beds on which the farmer and his wife slept, and set them down gently in the next county. The wife began to cry.
“Don’t be scared, Susan,” her husband said. “We are not hurt.”
