Baptist Salvation Notes

Two Doctrines of Interest: (Second Doctrine)

IV. Salvation

I get the idea of what is trying to be said through the scriptures… in a sense. But still, I feel a lot of what is trying to be said by the SBC and what the scriptures do not match up entirely. By word, they do, but by context, I don’t think so. And how I think this is by taking things out of context is by using a scripture from Ephesians, which is Paul talking to baptized “Christians” in the Church, and then applying to everyone in all walks of life, whether they are baptized or not, saved or not. Romans 4:3 generally gets abused a lot, but that’s OK. I’m still learning about this one. What does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.” Abraham “had faith” is another way to translate that… and it was credited to him as justification by God. But keep in mind, Abraham still did deeds prior to all this. Before he was Abraham, he was Abram. And Abram did many things for the LORD in the chapters prior to Genesis 15. James talks about faith and deeds. I believe faith is great and deeds are great. But deeds do not buy your way into heaven and idle hands are the devils work, as it is said. Of course, in Romans, Paul is talking to the Church in Rome, so the scripture in Romans 10 is in reference the Church in Rome struggling spiritually. I attached Chapters 9-11 of Romans without the verse numbers (I found it easier and quicker to read that way, personally), so that anyone can read it. It is the NIV. Anyway, I found it to be a tiring study, yet intriguing. I didn’t get to study all the scriptures like I wanted, but I did see a scripture in Hebrews in new light, which I will definitely go back and look at again in the future.
