Marriage Enrichment Weekend 2008: Part III

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter. I saw a church that had a sign which said they had a "31 minute" Easter service. It's like they were trying to say that you don't have spend too much time with God but you can still punch you "Church Clock" on Easter. The Bible says something about itching ears... Anyway, today is the third enstallment of the MEW 2008.
Genesis 1:26-27
Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

I like how God said "us" and "our" in this passage. And then it says in "his own image". So, God is a plural and singular being at the same time.

Genesis 2:18-20
The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him."

Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field. But for Adam no suitable helper was found.

Helper: ‛êzer (pronounced: ay'-zer)
  • aid: - help.
  • help, succour; one who helps

Helpmate: neged (pronounced: neh'-ghed)

  • What is conspicuous, what is in front of (substantive); In front of, straight forward, before, in sight of (adverb); in front of oneself, straightforward (adverb); before your face, in your view or purpose (adverb); what is in front of, corresponding to (with preposition); in front of, before (with preposition); in the sight or presence of (with preposition); parallel to (with preposition); over, for (with preposition); in front, opposite (with preposition); at a distance (with preposition); from the front of, away from (preposition); from before the eyes of, opposite to, at a distance from; from before, in front of; as far as the front of.
Pslam 54:4
Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me.
I don't really need to comment on this one.

Ephesians 5:19-33
Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.

Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church— for we are members of his body. "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh." This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church. However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

Submit: hupotassō (pronounced: hoop-ot-as'-so)
  • To subordinate; reflexively to obey: - be under obedience (obedient), put under, subdue unto, (be, make) subject (to, unto), be (put) in subjection (to, under), submit self unto.
  • To arrange under, to subordinate; to subject, put in subjection; to subject one’s self, obey; to submit to one’s control; to yield to one’s admonition or advice; to obey, be subject
2nd Corinthians 5:16-21
So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Reconcile (verb):
  • To reestablish a close relationship between.
  • To settle or resolve.
  • To bring (oneself) to accept.
  • To make compatible or consistent.
  • Come to terms.
  • To cause (people) to become friendly again, such as after they have quarrelled.
  • To restore to harmony.

Proverbs 18:21-22
The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the LORD.

James 1:26
If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless.

1st Peter 3:1-7
Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, when they see the purity and reverence of your lives. Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight. For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to make themselves beautiful. They were submissive to their own husbands, like Sarah, who obeyed Abraham and called him her master. You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear.

Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.

Proverbs 18:2
A fool finds no pleasure in understanding but delights in airing his own opinions.

Proverbs 16:24
Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.

OK, so I will continue this on March 26th... Tomorrow is my birthday and I am planning a different QT for tomorrow. Johnny Out.
